FIFA president Gianni Infantino has signaled support for a proposal from UEFA and Concacaf to distribute funds to member associations from record World Cup revenues, though the exact amount remains undecided. In a letter obtained by ESPN, Infantino responded to earlier correspondence from the two confederations, which had suggested each of the 211 member associations receive at least $10 million over the 2027-30 cycle. That proposal emerged after Infantino faced calls to resign over an attempt to sell a 20% stake in the World Cup to investors led by Joshua Kushner, a plan that would have delivered $20 million per association.

Infantino's letter, addressed to the heads of all six confederations, including UEFA's Aleksander Ceferin and Concacaf's Victor Montagliani, emphasized that FIFA's financial success should benefit all members. He noted that while the proposed figures and mechanisms are new, the principle of distributing wealth is not. Infantino has instructed the FIFA Secretary General to consolidate all submissions into an integrated assessment for the FIFA Council meeting on Oct. 15, where details will be discussed.

The FIFA chief stressed that no preliminary figure should be treated as an approved commitment until the assessment and necessary approvals are complete. He expressed support for the greatest level of additional funding that can be responsibly delivered through proper governance, applied fairly and transparently. Infantino also extended an olive branch to Ceferin and Montagliani, urging unity in the wake of the backlash over the World Cup stake sale, which had drawn criticism from federation presidents worldwide.
