Welbeck, a former Arsenal and Manchester United player, emerged as an unexpected target for Chelsea's forward line after a career-best 13 Premier League goals in 37 matches last season. His potential arrival increases speculation about the futures of Liam Delap and Nicolas Jackson. João Pedro impressed last season with 15 league goals, while Jackson has garnered interest from Aston Villa after a loan spell at Bayern Munich.

This move signals a shift in Chelsea's transfer strategy under new manager Xabi Alonso, focusing on more experienced signings.
