Alex Formenton has signed with the Edmonton Oilers on a league-minimum contract worth $850,000 for the season. The 26-year-old forward is the third player acquitted in the Hockey Canada sexual assault case to receive an NHL contract since the trial ended in July 2025. Formenton joins Dillon Dube with St. Louis and Carter Hart in Vegas, who signed deals in July and October respectively.

Formenton has not played in the NHL since 2022 with Ottawa, spending the past four seasons playing in Switzerland or not playing hockey at all. The NHL reinstated all five players a year ago, allowing them to play beginning Dec. 1, following a judge's ruling in London, Ontario finding them not guilty of sexual assault. Michael Mc Leod remains under contract in the KHL, while Cal Foote signed this summer with a team in Sweden before the deal was terminated due to fan objections.
