Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce is expected to play in the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, head coach Shane Steichen said Monday. Pierce returned to practice on Aug. 27 after undergoing ankle surgery in March, which kept him out for nearly five months. He missed all of preseason as he recovered, but has now had five practices with the team.

Steichen expressed confidence in Pierce's readiness, noting that he has been taking reps and feeling good. Pierce has been working with quarterback Daniel Jones to reestablish their connection, which was strong in 2025 when Pierce led the NFL in yards per catch (21.3) for the second straight season. The coach highlighted their familiarity and chemistry.

Pierce, a veteran receiver, is expected to be a key target for Jones in the Colts' offense. His return adds a deep threat and experience to the receiving corps. The team looks forward to seeing the duo pick up where they left off, with Steichen noting, "Both those guys are veterans that kind of know each other really well."
