CLEVELAND -- Center fielder Tristan Peters drew an 18-pitch walk against Guardians ace Gavin Williams in the sixth inning of a scoreless game, sparking a six-run outburst that lifted the Chicago White Sox to a 7-3 win. Williams was pulled immediately after throwing a season-high 113 pitches, with the final 18 to Peters marking the most pitches to a single player in MLB since 2020.

"It felt like I was up there for an hour," Peters said. "I was just exhausted. ... I was just trying to see it as deep as possible, especially when it got to two strikes." Peters fouled off 12 pitches during the at-bat, which began with two called strikes after a first-pitch ball. Teammate Andrew Benintendi, on second base, called it one of the most impressive at-bats he's seen this year.

The win extended Chicago's division lead over Cleveland, which entered the game just a half-game behind the first-place White Sox. According to ESPN Analytics, the White Sox now have a 77% chance to win the AL Central, up from 44% before the game. Peters' two-run single and subsequent baserunning play -- getting hit in the helmet while disrupting Nathaniel Lowe's throw at second -- scored the first run of the game. Miguel Vargas added his 31st home run as Chicago built a commanding lead.
