With the MLB playoffs approaching, labor tensions loom over baseball. More than two dozen current major leaguers spoke anonymously to ESPN about salary cap, CBA negotiations, and the possibility of a 2027 lockout.

On a salary cap, most players were firmly opposed. An NL infielder making eight figures said, "Zero. No chance." Another NL infielder warned, "Get ready to see a bunch of schoolteachers... because we're not playing if there's a cap." A few were open to listening, but many cited historical concerns about revenue percentages shrinking over time.

When asked if they'd accept a cap if it meant more personal money, most still said no. "It's about all of us," said a reliever approaching arbitration. A union leadership role player emphasized, "The cap is going to be bad for players, the player group in general."

The players' responses reflect deep distrust of ownership and solidarity within the union, setting the stage for intense negotiations ahead of the 2027 season.
