Cleveland Guardians shortstop Brayan Rocchio became the sixth player in MLB history to hit a grand slam and a walk-off home run in the same game on Friday, leading Cleveland to a 7-6 win over the Detroit Tigers in the first game of a split doubleheader. The 25-year-old Venezuelan joined Hall of Famers George Kelly, Hank Greenberg, and Minnie Minoso, along with Otto Velez and Jack Clark, in the exclusive club. Rocchio's grand slam in the fourth inning off Keider Montero came batting left-handed, while his walk-off shot in the ninth against Drew Sommers came as a righty — the first time in his life homering from both sides in a game.

Manager Stephen Vogt praised Rocchio's consistency, saying, "What a cool day for him." The Guardians scored the final six runs to rally for the victory, maintaining their hold on the last American League wild-card spot. Rocchio, batting .247 with 12 homers and 59 RBIs in 134 games, said, "Everything that we do is for the team, to help the team make the playoffs.".
