The Milwaukee Brewers placed right-handed pitcher Grant Anderson on the 15-day injured list due to right biceps inflammation and recalled Brandon Sproat from Triple-A Nashville on Monday. Anderson threw a season-high 44 pitches and matched his season high with 2 2/3 innings in Sunday’s 12-8 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Anderson was extended beyond his usual workload and was feeling discomfort, though there was no structural damage.

Anderson, 29, is 3-3 with a 3.36 ERA in 52 appearances this season. Murphy noted the MLB-leading Brewers needed a fresh arm in the bullpen after no starter worked more than four innings over the weekend. Sproat, 25, went 3-7 with a 5.27 ERA in earlier MLB action this season as a starter but had been working shorter stints with Nashville, where he went 0-1 with a 4.00 ERA.

Murphy said the move aimed to prepare Sproat for a potential bullpen role while reducing pressure.
