Ben Shelton defeated Frances Tiafoe 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 in an all-American semifinal at the US Open, becoming the first Black American man to reach the final since Arthur Ashe in 1972. After a ceremony honoring the 9/11 anniversary, Tiafoe dominated the first set, but Shelton's powerful serving — including 20 aces — turned the match. Tiafoe fell to 0-3 in US Open semifinals.
