Ethan Pritchard was shot in the head during a targeted attack on his Dodge Charger last August, with 70 of 71 bullets missing. The single bullet that hit him was fired from close range as he reversed to protect his 3-year-old niece. Pritchard spent 30 days in a coma, during which he claims to have glimpsed his late mother, late aunt, and Jesus in a vision.

He recalls his mother saying, "It's not your time," before waking up. Now recovering, Pritchard focuses on the future, including hopes to play football again at Florida State. "Maybe it happened for a reason," he says. "What I'm doing now -- it's going to be something for the world to watch." The tragedy occurred shortly after Florida State's thrilling 31-17 opening win over Alabama, where Pritchard had impressed coaches during practice. Born in Tallahassee, Pritchard lost his mother to a brain aneurysm when he was 18 months old.

His father, Earl, attended the Alabama game, describing seeing his son "out there dancing, enjoying the crowd" as one of life's best feelings.
