Player Development & Breakout Watch

ESPN's analysts have identified the next wave of NHL breakout stars, a group that includes players with new linemates and young talents poised for superstardom. ESPN also released its first regular-season update to the 1-32 Top 100 player rankings, showing how many players each franchise placed on the list.

Game Results & Standings

Sharks center Macklin Celebrini returned from a two-game absence and scored San Jose's first goal in a loss to the Oilers, the 20-year-old recently named the Sharks' captain. In Columbus, Cam Talbot led the Blue Jackets to victory, becoming the first NHL netminder to win with a ninth different team, an outstanding milestone for the 39-year-old goaltender.

Injuries & Roster Moves

The Rangers received a heavy blow as goaltender Igor Shesterkin was ruled out for the rest of the season with a right knee injury. In Ottawa, Senators forward William Eklund faces an extended absence after injuring his ankle on a hard hit during Thursday's win over the Flyers.

Retirements & Remembrances

Defenseman Matt Dumba announced his retirement at age 32 after 13 NHL seasons with five teams, a career that included the 2020 King Clancy Memorial Trophy. The league also mourned Bobby Gould, the former longtime Capitals forward who died at 69 after an 11-year NHL playing career, most of it in Washington.
