American League Playoff Action

The White Sox continued their dominant run in the ALDS, beating the Guardians 4-3 on Monday to take a 2-0 lead in their series. White Sox used a late rally to close out the victory, putting Cleveland on the brink of elimination. Guardians will need a strong performance from their opener to avoid a sweep as Chicago looks to advance.

The Rays extended their lead in the ALDS, defeating the Yankees 5-2 to go up 2-0. Yankees committed four errors, including three in the first inning, which proved costly in the loss. Rays capitalized on the mistakes, with their bunting strategy continuing to pay dividends in the postseason.

National League Playoff Action

The Dodgers strengthened their position in the NLDS, taking a 2-1 lead over the Braves behind a dominant outing from Yamamoto. Dodgers got solid relief pitching after Yamamoto exited, while the offense provided enough runs to secure the win. Braves fell behind 2-1 in the series despite a strong effort from their lineup.

The Padres fell further behind in the NLDS, losing Game 3 to the Brewers. Padres were unable to solve Yamamoto's stuff, as the Dodgers' ace outdueled Atlanta's Sale in the earlier contest. Brewers evened the series at one game apiece with a walk-off single in Game, but Milwaukee faces an uphill battle on the road.

Transactions and Notes

The Padres will be without star closer Mason Miller for Game, as he was placed on the paternity list. Miller availability remains uncertain, but San Diego will need to rely on their bullpen depth in his absence. Padres manager Craig Sammen denied concerns about pitch-tipping, stating the team will limit Miller to one inning if he does pitch.

The Dodgers made a strategic lineup change for Game, moving Ohtani to the No. 5 spot. Ohtani has been struggling of late, but Roberts believes the adjustment will provide better protection for the rest of the order. The move aims to jumpstart the offense as Los Angeles looks to close out the Braves in Game.
