Apple's Siri 2.0: Standalone App, Dynamic Island Integration Coming in iOS 27

Apple is testing a standalone Siri chatbot app for iOS 27, marking a major shift in the company's AI strategy. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the personal assistant will compete directly with ChatGPT and Claude through a dedicated application that supports both text and voice conversations. This represents a significant departure from Apple's previous stance against a standalone Siri app.

The new Siri will feature conversation histories displayed in chat bubble format similar to iMessage, with options to favorite, search, and save chats. Users can initiate conversations through suggested prompts, and Siri will maintain its integration across Apple devices while replacing current Spotlight search functionality. The assistant will gain enhanced capabilities including web search with rich results, document analysis, and expanded Siri Suggestions that access more user data for contextual prompts.

Apple is also testing Dynamic Island integration with a glowing Siri icon and translucent results panel, plus an "Ask Siri" button for cross-app functionality. The company plans to unveil these iOS 27 features at the June 8 WWDC keynote, bringing Apple Intelligence capabilities originally planned for iOS 18. This overhaul positions Siri to compete more effectively in the growing AI assistant market while maintaining Apple's focus on privacy and seamless device integration.
