Apple has submitted new evidence in its lawsuit against OpenAI, seeking an expedited discovery process to investigate claims of trade secret theft. The tech giant alleges former engineer Chang Liu downloaded a confidential Apple circuit schematic and used it at OpenAI. According to the filing, Liu used the schematic with LTspice to run simulations for power conversion development.

The filing details how Liu, upon learning of Apple's investigation, sent instructions to destroy evidence to an OpenAI colleague. Furthermore, Liu reportedly trained an AI agent to run the internal Apple engineering application LTspice, stating his AI "learned how to run LTspice, look at result, tune compensation parameter." Apple claims Liu used a Mac mini, which synced to the MacBook he took from the company, to access and utilize the stolen information. Apple argues this evidence proves its trade secrets are in active use and that destruction is imminent, necessitating rapid legal action.

OpenAI has dismissed the accusations as "meritless" and published a statement calling the lawsuit "careless, aggressive and oddly personal," maintaining it does not possess Apple's secrets. Judge Edward J. Davila is scheduled to hear arguments on October 1.
