Earlier reports claimed that the Samsung Galaxy S27 lineup will ship with the next-generation LPDDR6 memory, paired with Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, but the latest rumor suggests otherwise. The Bell cites inside sources claiming that Samsung is carrying out quality tests using Micron's new LPDDR5X memory based on the 1y process, which is the equivalent of the 1c DRAM manufacturing process from Samsung and SK Hynix.

Due to rising RAM costs, Micron is reportedly asking for a 50% higher price than Samsung's Device Solutions arm that produces DRAM chips. Typically, Micron asks for a 20-30% price premium on new-generation memory chips. This means that even if Samsung decides to go for Micron's LPDDR5X chips, it will still pay a premium compared to the outgoing model.

Still, there is a chance that the higher-tier Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra will adopt the next-generation LPDDR6 chips with SD8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. The standard Galaxy S27 and the Plus models might be the ones getting the LPDDR5X chips from Micron. They are also rumored to run on Samsung's in-house Exynos 2700 SoC, which is based on Samsung's second-gen 2nm manufacturing process.
