Snapchat Launches Event Planning Feature

Snapchat is introducing a new feature called 'Snapchat Plans' that allows users to organize in-person events directly within the app. The tool enables users to create events for up to 200 people, manage invitations, and track RSVPs through dedicated event spaces accessible from the 'My Plans' section of their profile. Invites are sent via direct messages, and attendees can respond with options like 'going,' 'can't go,' or 'maybe.' The feature includes Bitmoji-themed cover art and ensures all events are private, visible only to the creator and invitees, though invited users can view the guest list.

Notably, the current version lacks location details, despite Snapchat's popular Snap Map feature. A Snap spokesperson confirmed the company is 'actively working on' adding location information to Plans, though it remains unclear if it will integrate with Snap Map. The addition of event planning is seen as ironic given Snapchat's past claims of not being a traditional social media platform, especially since location data is often considered essential for IRL gatherings.
