Meta has revealed its long-promised personal AI agent called Muse, which requires "no technical experience" to set up. The agent can complete a wide range of actions on users' behalf, including online shopping, drafting and sending emails, planning trips, and other productivity-focused tasks.

Muse has its own dedicated apps and website and is more capable than the Meta AI assistant because it can handle complex tasks and work independently. It can connect to Meta's own apps, as well as third-party services like Google Workspace, Ticketmaster, Open Table, Spotify, and Apple Health. For example, users can ask Muse to organize saved recipe videos from Instagram and Facebook, build grocery lists, compare prices, and order items.

The company has built in safeguards to prevent agents from going rogue and to protect user data. Muse will check in for approval before sending emails or completing purchases, but can handle low-risk tasks without signoff. It runs on a dedicated virtual machine to keep each person's agent and data separate.

Meta acknowledges that Muse "can and will still make mistakes," but expects them to be less frequent due to safety systems. The agent is also being incorporated into WhatsApp and smart glasses. Users can opt out of having their interactions used for AI training, and Meta won't share conversation details with its advertising systems, though shopping interactions could indirectly influence ads.
