Huawei announced the Mate XT2, claiming it as the world's first foldable smartphone with a built-in privacy display. The device combines tri-folding capabilities with a privacy feature previously seen on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The Mate XT2 features a new hinge mechanism that folds its displays inwards, with a 6.5-inch display when folded that expands into a 10.2-inch 3K resolution screen when fully open. It runs on Huawei's in-house Harmony OS.

Under the hood, the Mate XT2 is powered by the new Kirin 9050 Pro chip, promising 42 percent faster performance compared to its predecessor. Huawei equipped the tri-fold smartphone with four cameras: a 50-megapixel main camera, a 40-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 50-megapixel periscope camera with 3.5x optical zoom. The interior display hosts an eight-megapixel selfie camera.

The Mate XT2 starts at 19,999 yuan, or around $2,980. The variant with 1TB of storage and the privacy display feature costs at least 24,999 yuan, or roughly $3,725. A collector's edition with 2TB of storage starts at 29,999 yuan, or about $4,470. Huawei stated the Mate XT2 will go on sale starting September 12.
