Bungie has shared more details about the next phase for its shooter Marathon, following the previously announced Nightfall refresh in October. The Symbiosis update in December will add a team deathmatch mode and a permanently available PvE mode, allowing players to experiment with builds without being attacked by other players. The Perimeter zone will be overhauled with a new visual identity and a boss called the Tick Queen.

A new shell archetype, the Bishop, is described as a "high-performance robot samurai." A social space with a firing range will also be added for newer players.\n\nLooking ahead to 2027, an unnamed March update will be "meaningfully larger than Symbiosis." Planned additions include "an interconnected system of permanent PvE, PvP, and PvEvP experiences," more onboarding improvements, a new zone, new alien enemies, deeper progression for the shell system, and "more focused questlines and narrative." Bungie says these changes will lay a foundation for Marathon to grow throughout 2027.
