Launched in December 2024, the feature was deemed "persistently underperforming" by March 2026. OpenAI had hoped for an iPhone halo effect to attract new users and subscribers, which did not materialize.

Meanwhile, Grok, part of xAI absorbed into SpaceXAI, was gaining popularity and cited in the lawsuit as a potential alternative that could have been integrated into Apple Intelligence.
