Microphone audio exists temporarily in a protected hardware buffer that continuously overwrites itself — like a conveyor belt in a locked room — without becoming a playable or retrievable recording. Apple states neither the operating system, apps, users, nor Apple itself can access this data.

Siri Recap can transfer encrypted audio from the Apple Watch to a paired iPhone for text conversion. The feature produces short summaries without preserving complete transcripts or identifying individual speakers. Audio Intelligence requires Apple Watch Series 12 or Apple Watch Ultra 4 with the S11 chip, plus iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 17e, iPhone Air, or later models with a Secure Exclave.
