Apple Prepares Advanced Photography Tools for iOS 27

Apple is preparing advanced photography tools for the iPhone with iOS 27, including exposure scopes, focus peaking, and expanded manual focus controls. New beta code, first spotted by pdfu, a MacRumors forum regular, reveals five potential features. The exposure scopes feature will include waveform and histogram displays to help users judge exposures, with the histogram showing pixel over- or underexposure percentages and the waveform mapping this data to frame areas.

Focus peaking will highlight in-focus edges with colored outlines and warn of overexposure. Manual focusing will resemble the Final Cut Camera app, potentially restricted to iOS 27 devices. Apple may also introduce aperture-based image corrections for future iPhones with variable apertures, possibly the iPhone 18 Pro.

These features won't be available in current betas and may not all launch in September.
