Tim Cook met with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, this week to discuss the EU Kids Act. The meeting took place in Manhattan during the United Nations General Assembly.

Von der Leyen posted on X that they "agreed on the importance of privacy, safety and security for children." The proposed legislation would restrict social media access for minors across the EU and require platforms to provide stronger protections for young users.

Cook, now executive chairman after stepping down as CEO on September 1, has been engaging with policymakers worldwide. Days earlier, he welcomed Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at Apple Park, who reportedly called Australia's social media restrictions for children "world-leading." Cook is also expected to attend a White House state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping on September 24.

It remains unclear whether Cook will meet with other world leaders during the UNGA gathering.
