Federal health officials are investigating a large cyclosporiasis outbreak that has been linked to shredded lettuce served at Taco Bell restaurants across 10 states. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has identified 217 cases of illness, with 70 people requiring hospitalization.

While the investigation is ongoing, the CDC has stated that the source of contamination is likely the shredded lettuce. This has raised concerns for consumers about the safety of lettuce in general, both from restaurants and grocery stores.

However, the CDC has not issued a recall for any specific lettuce products and has not advised consumers to avoid eating lettuce. They recommend that consumers continue to follow food safety practices, such as washing hands thoroughly after handling raw produce and washing fruits and vegetables before eating them.
