Despite their shared Democratic roots, Hochul and Mamdani have maintained a cautious partnership. Mamdani, a progressive favorite, has privately committed to record campaign videos for Hochul and join joint appearances across the city. Republicans, particularly Blakeman, have seized on the alliance, running AI-generated ads depicting Hochul as a ally of Mamdani.

Recent polls show Hochul leading Blakeman by nine to 19 points. Siena University data indicates a majority of likely voters believe Mamdani's endorsement would help her campaign. Hochul welcomed support from left-leaning figures like Mamdani and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who recently donated $300,000 to the state party.

While Hochul once needed introductions to neighborhoods, she now asserts she welcomes the progressive support as she campaigns for a second term.
