Crypto Industry Targets Sherrod Brown with $30M Ad Blitz

The cryptocurrency industry is launching a $30 million advertising campaign against former Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio, a top Democratic Senate candidate. Fairshake, the industry’s main super PAC, is furious after Democrats blocked the Clarity Act, which would have shielded crypto from future regulatory crackdowns. Fairshake spent $41 million targeting Brown in 2024, contributing to his defeat.

Now, with Republicans in control of Washington and enjoying a light regulatory touch, the industry is shifting spending toward GOP candidates. Brown, who could return to the Senate Banking Committee if elected, has softened his public criticism of crypto, stating he isn’t “outspoken against” it and acknowledges its role in the economy. The $30 million campaign, starting Tuesday, includes ads and mail attacking Brown.

His Republican opponent, Senator Jon Husted, already holds a significant financial edge, with Republicans expected to outspend Democrats by $30 million on advertising statewide. Fairshake, backed by Silicon Valley elites, has a war chest of $120.4 million and is poised to heavily influence the midterms.
