About 100 people were arrested Thursday in Midtown Manhattan as large groups protested Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's address to the United Nations General Assembly. Jewish Voice for Peace led roughly 250 demonstrators in a sit-in at 39th Street and First Avenue, where protesters chanted and blocked traffic. Executive Director Stefanie Fox stated they opposed Netanyahu and demanded an end to U.S. arms shipments to Israel. Separately, the Palestinian Youth Movement and NYC Workers for Palestine organized a march of over 1,000 people through Midtown during rush hour.

Among those arrested were City Councilman Chi Ossé, Democratic congressional nominee Darializa Avila Chevalier, and actresses Susan Sarandon and Hannah Einbinder. Avila Chevalier said she participated because "human dignity is more important than any political calculus." Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who previously pledged to enforce an ICC arrest warrant against Netanyahu but backed away citing legal authority, encouraged the protests. Netanyahu faces an International Criminal Court warrant for alleged war crimes in Gaza, and Israel has been accused of genocide by a UN commission and human rights groups.
