Artak Beglaryan, a former senior official from Nagorno-Karabakh, is leading a pro bono legal effort at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) to seek justice for over 100,000 ethnic Armenians displaced by Azerbaijan’s 2022 Lachin corridor blockade. The Armenia Pro Bono Collaborative Project, launched in 2024, unites the International and Comparative Law Centre (ICLC), the Artsakh Union, and law firms Orrick, Baker McKenzie, Simmons & Simmons, and Reed Smith. Over 120 volunteer lawyers have helped file applications for 173 victims, with ongoing work supporting 577 applications for 1,200 people.

The coalition uses AI translation and training templates to streamline ECHR filings, asserting violations of property, private life, and remedy rights under the European Convention on Human Rights. Beglaryan emphasizes the global support, noting that foreigners care about justice for humanity. Despite progress, resource scarcity remains a major challenge, with 650 additional applications being finalized by Armenian lawyers and students.
