TMX Group Ltd., parent of the Toronto Stock Exchange, will offer extended trading hours and prediction markets in Canada if clients demand them, according to CFO David Arnold. The company has already extended trading on its Montreal Exchange to sync with London and Asian hours. "So we know how to do it," Arnold said at the Bloomberg Canadian Finance Conference in New York.

Nasdaq, NYSE, and London Stock Exchange are planning to expand trading to nearly 24 hours a day, with Nasdaq and NYSE Arca set to launch overnight trading on Dec. 6. "If there is enough demand, we will be very, very quick to follow suit," Arnold said, though he added, "I'm just not so sure the demand is there" for some Canadian stocks.

On prediction markets, Arnold noted that exchange operator MEMX recently filed to offer binary bets on corporate earnings in the U.S. "I think that that is something that we could replicate in Canada," he said. TMX is set to become majority owner of a company including MEMX and BOX Options Market after a July deal.

Arnold also said TMX's IPO pipeline is "very robust and it's quite diverse," tracking some 1,500 companies, with over 50% being non-Canadian. This year, seven companies listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange raised nearly C$3 billion, and the TSX Venture Exchange saw eight IPOs totaling C$7 million.
