French President Emmanuel Macron said he discussed a potential moratorium on deep strikes against energy assets between Ukraine and Russia with Donald Trump in New York. Macron plans to raise the topic with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later Monday. Zelenskyy has so far dismissed Trump's calls for Ukraine to stop targeting refineries inside Russia, which have caused fuel shortages.

Trump has watched diesel prices spiral in the US, alarming some voters before November mid-term elections, though price increases largely followed the war against Iran launched in February. Macron also said they discussed France's role in securing Red Sea export routes for Middle Eastern oil. France is determined to avoid an escalation after fresh Houthi attacks hit a Saudi oil pipeline earlier this month.
