Hartford Insurance Group Inc. has appointed A. Morris Tooker as its next chief executive officer, ending Christopher Swift’s nearly 13-year tenure at the helm. Tooker, currently the company’s president, will assume the CEO role on March 1, while Swift will transition to executive chair. Tooker will also join the board on Thursday, as confirmed in a Wednesday statement.

Trevor Fetter, The Hartford’s lead independent director, praised Tooker for delivering profitable growth, advancing customer-centered innovation, upholding underwriting rigor, and building strong teams. Tooker joined the company in 2015 as chief underwriting officer and has held various leadership roles since.

As executive chair, Swift will advise Tooker and assist the board in overseeing the firm’s strategic direction. The transition marks a significant leadership change at one of the nation’s largest property and casualty insurers.

The move reflects a planned succession strategy aimed at ensuring continuity and sustained growth as Hartford Insurance Group continues to navigate a competitive and evolving insurance market.
