Harper Collins India will publish the memoir of senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, the publisher said Friday, a week after Penguin Random House India dropped plans to release the book in the country. Harper Collins said in an Instagram post it will publish the book on Nov. 10, the same day as its release in the US. The much-anticipated book, titled Belonging: A Journey of Love, will be published internationally by Penguin Random House, but its Indian arm dropped plans to publish it following differences over changes in the manuscript.

Italian-born Sonia Gandhi married into India's Nehru-Gandhi political dynasty, which has dominated the country's politics for much of the period since independence in 1947. Her husband Rajiv Gandhi, mother-in-law Indira Gandhi and Indira's father Jawaharlal Nehru all served as prime ministers. She led the Congress Party for several years, and her children, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, are prominent opposition leaders.

In a statement, Penguin Random House India said it had remained willing to work on the book but that it was the publisher's responsibility to 'fact check and provide authors with recommendations that are in the best interests of the book.' It added that 'Penguin Random House India is not the publisher of 'Belonging' in India.' The book will be published in the US by Alfred A. Knopf, part of Penguin Random House.
