The Democratic Socialists of America’s Los Angeles chapter endorsed City Councilmember Nithya Raman for LA mayor, casting aside some members’ earlier reservations and bringing its organizing heft to her effort to unseat Karen Bass. The endorsement is set to provide Raman, a DSA member, with volunteers and campaign infrastructure ahead of the November runoff even as the group’s left-wing political positions risk alienating moderate voters. There’s also tension on the city council, where three other DSA-backed members are supporting Bass, a Democrat.
