Warwickshire beat Essex by eight wickets at Chelmsford to go top of the County Championship. Manav Suthar took 5-75 as Essex were bowled out for 189, setting up a two-day win.

Warwickshire needed 133 and Zen Malik hit a quick half-century. Dan Mousley and Sam Hain saw them home in the extra overs.

Warwickshire await results of Somerset and Nottinghamshire before next week's final fixtures. Essex, with a fourth defeat in five, are focused on avoiding relegation.

After 19 wickets on day one, Essex made two injury substitutions: Tom Westley (finger) replaced by Luc Benkenstein, and Shane Snater (leg) by 17-year-old Jack Auld. Auld took a wicket with his fourth ball. Warwickshire's first-innings lead of 57 was thanks to Sam Hain's unbeaten 88. Chris Woakes took 3-33. Dean Elgar's final innings at Chelmsford ended with a catch to short leg.
