Prem Rugby has shifted from crisis to confidence after Worcester, Wasps and London Irish collapsed between 2022-2023. Chief executive Simon Massie-Taylor recalls the grim period of telling staff at failed clubs they had lost their jobs, describing it as "horrible" because for many it was "a way of life." The turning point arrived in August 2025 when Red Bull invested in Newcastle Falcons, bringing a grand vision that left staff in tears. Since then, Black Knight — owners of Premier League side Bournemouth — acquired Exeter Chiefs, billionaire Sir James Dyson took a 50% stake in Bath, and financier Steve Zander invested in Northampton Saints.

More deals are expected, with Gloucester and Leicester in talks. Massie-Taylor held a London investor summit in June and plans a US trip in October. Advisors confirm surging global interest: A&W Capital's Matthew Wheeler says there is "definitely a momentum," while Oakwell Sports Advisory's Andrew Umbers fielded interest from roughly 30 of 110 investors across North America, Asia and Europe for Exeter alone.

The league's bar for entry has risen far beyond the early days when checks were simply: "do you exist, have you got a criminal record, do you actually have any money?".
