Lewis Hamilton says he and Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc have "squashed" their Monza controversy. Leclerc forced Hamilton into the gravel at the first chicane, then crashed. Hamilton finished sixth. It was the second flashpoint in two races after a Dutch GP radio argument.

Hamilton said: "We sat face to face and talked about it. We were open and honest, and we squashed it. We can move on." Leclerc said: "I know I went too far in turn two and I said it to Lewis. It did not affect our good relationship."

Hamilton acknowledged Ferrari must improve qualifying. "It's a longer term process," he said. "Moving big pieces is not so easy."

F1 faces a fresh challenge at the new Madring circuit in Madrid. Hamilton called it "massively challenging." George Russell said: "It's a crazy circuit, arguably one of the most risky." Russell heads into the race 66 points behind teammate Kimi Antonelli after the Italian's landmark victory in Monza from 19th on the grid.
