Tanzanian striker Clara Luvanga has joined the Washington Spirit from Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr in a deal believed to be one of the most costly in women’s football history. While the exact fee remains undisclosed, reports suggest a $2.3m figure that would make her the most expensive female player ever, surpassing London City Lionesses’ reported £1.4m signing of Grace Geyoro. Luvanga, 21, signed through the end of the 2029 NWSL season, becoming the first Tanzanian player in league history.

She won three Saudi Women’s Premier League titles, a golden boot with 24 goals last season, and has already impressed with her versatility and ambition.
