Leeds United forward Noah Okafor has announced he will no longer play for Switzerland under head coach Murat Yakin, citing a breakdown in trust. The 26-year-old, who has earned 26 caps since his 2019 debut, stated his decision is unrelated to playing time. "My decision has nothing to do with my playing time," Okafor wrote on Instagram. "Things happened that hurt me deeply. Trust was broken. Commitments were not kept."

He referenced his brief appearance in Switzerland's last-32 World Cup win over Algeria, saying minor mistakes were met with harsh reactions. The Swiss FA confirmed they respect his decision and wished him success at club level.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke expressed full support, calling Okafor a "key player" and affirming he has "a home here for Noah." Farke added that the choice regarding international duty is Okafor's to make.

Switzerland's next fixture is on 26 September against North Macedonia in the 2026-27 Nations League. Yakin has led the national team since August 2021.
