Former England winger Andros Townsend described being run over by a pitch roller in Thailand as "terrifying". The 35-year-old, now with PT Prachuap in Thai League 1, was warming up in Pattani on Saturday when a staff member lost control of the roller. His left leg briefly got stuck, but he was unhurt and came off the bench in a 3-0 win.

Speaking on Piers Morgan's Football Uncensored, Townsend said he was lucky to escape with "bumps and bruises". "Every time I see it, I'm cringing," he said. "It's horrible to watch back and to see what could have been."

Townsend, who won 13 caps for England, thought it strange to see two rollers during warm-up. "The next I saw him was when I was literally underneath him," he said. "A couple of bumps and bruises but managed to walk away unscathed."

He said the incident "definitely not going to stop me from continuing". Concerned about his ankle and knee, he added: "I thought I was done. I was very fortunate." On Instagram, he joked: "It turns out Stoke away wasn't so bad after all."
