Toto Wolff remains confident that George Russell can overcome a difficult 2026 Formula 1 season and still become world champion in the future. Despite Russell being 81 points behind teammate Kimi Antonelli with nine rounds left, Wolff praised Russell’s pedigree, noting he has won every major title possible before F1. He acknowledged the psychological toll of a tough year but emphasized that elite drivers recover.

Russell entered 2026 as the title favourite after finishing fourth in 2025 with 169 points, far ahead of Antonelli’s seventh-place finish. Antonelli’s strong sophomore leap, including back-to-back wins at Monza and Spain, has shifted the title dynamics. Wolff highlighted Antonelli’s grounded nature, family support, and ability to compartmentalize pressure as key to his consistency.

He stressed that discussions about managing Antonelli’s environment will continue, but the youngster remains unfazed by championship talk. Wolff affirmed that while Russell’s 2026 title hopes may have faded, his long-term potential remains intact, and more opportunities will come.
