Mistral AI and Mozilla announced a partnership to power Firefox Smart Window (beta) with Mistral models, bringing privacy-focused, multilingual AI browsing to users in France and North America, with the United Kingdom and Germany expected later this year. The collaboration unites two open-source advocates to deliver AI that understands regional languages, dialects, and cultural context.

The partnership emphasizes four pillars: open technology distribution, locally optimized AI, user control, and sovereign AI access. Firefox Smart Window helps users summarize complex searches, recall lost tabs, and source information from browser history. Privacy protections include zero data retention by default and no conversation storage on Mozilla servers.

Arthur Mensch, co-founder and CEO of Mistral, stated the alliance brings Mistral's scientific innovations to Mozilla's global consumers. Anthony Enzor-De Meo, CEO of Mozilla Corporation, emphasized preserving the open web by ensuring browsers remain a place for choice rather than a single company's pipeline.
