My previous AMD-based FreeBSD desktop is still running and will become my kids' computer, so I needed a new compact build. After searching for a Mini-ITX case, I chose the Silverstone SG13, nearly identical to my older SG05 (218mm vs 222mm width, 175mm vs 181mm height, 276mm vs 285mm depth, 10.5L vs 10.8L volume—a 5% size increase). I reused the AM4 platform with an AMD Ryzen 4750 GE CPU (8C/16T, 35W TDP) to avoid DDR5 and AM5 costs.

The new setup is ~25% faster in CPU and 40-60% faster in GPU workloads. Assembly involved fitting a GPU named 'Challenger' into the tight case, requiring trimming its plastic cover and expansion slot bracket. After modifications, the GPU fit, and I completed the build with RAM, SSD, and a Thermaltake Toughpower Grand 750W PSU with detachable cables.

My son helped during assembly in the dining room, making it a positive experience.
