Rory McIlroy became the first back-to-back winner of The Masters since Tiger Woods, claiming a one-shot victory at Augusta National. The 36-year-old built a historic six-stroke halfway lead before facing a dramatic final round where Cameron Young and Justin Rose both led at different points.

McIlroy responded with back-to-back birdies from the seventh and added gains from the 12th to briefly go three ahead. After Rose and Scottie Scheffler closed the gap, McIlroy took a two-shot lead to the 72nd hole and closed out victory with a two-putt bogey, posting a one-under 71 to finish on 12 under.

The triumph sees McIlroy join Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo and Woods as players to win consecutive Masters titles. With this victory, McIlroy became just the 15th man in history to claim six or more major titles, cementing his status among golf's elite as he avoided a repeat of last year's late stumble.
