FIFA has handed down disciplinary sanctions following the brawl at the end of last month's World Cup final between Argentina and Spain. Leandro Paredes received the harshest punishment, with a 10-match ban and a $90,000 fine. Defender Nahuel Molina was suspended for seven matches with the same fine, while midfielder Thiago Almada got a one-match ban and $30,000 fine. Argentina coach Roberto Ayala was banned for three matches and fined $30,000. Spain's Gavi also received a one-match ban and $30,000 fine.

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) was fined $321,000 for displaying a "Las Malvinas son Argentinas" banner during the semifinal against England. The fine included $10,000 for the banner and $20,000 for supporter misconduct. Additionally, the AFA must play their next two home matches at 50% capacity, with $100,000 of the fine suspended.

The Falkland Islands, a British Overseas Territory, were the subject of Argentina's 1982 invasion. UK politicians condemned the banner at the tournament, with Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey calling for player suspensions. Business Secretary Peter Kyle called the display "entirely inappropriate."

The AFA announced plans to appeal the sanctions, stating their legal department will request FIFA's ruling grounds to file appeals before the Appeals Committee, with the option to escalate to CAS as a last resort.
