I Am Maximus delivered a stunning performance at Aintree, securing trainer Willie Mullins his third consecutive victory in the Grand National. The 9-2 favourite successfully navigated the demanding circuit, finishing ahead of Iroko, Jordans, and Johnnywho. This cements Mullins’ place in history, matching Vincent O’Brien’s feat from the 1950s.

Ownership gains were also substantial, as JP McManus now stands as the leading owner in the race’s history with four total wins, including this latest triumph. I Am Maximus now becomes the first horse since Red Rum in the 1970s to claim the prize in non-consecutive years. McManus also saddled three of the top four finishers.

Jockey Paul Townend praised the horse’s tenacity, describing him as having an incredible engine capable of running “to the end of the world.” The race saw early drama, including the unseating of Patrick Mullins on Grangeclare West at the second fence. Only sixteen of the thirty-four starters managed to complete the challenging course.
