World number one Judd Trump overcame a slow start to defeat Mark Allen 10-8 in the first round of the Tour Championship in Manchester. The Englishman rallied after losing the opening four frames, with crucial breaks of 71, 104, and 88 helping him level the match before ultimately securing victory.

Northern Ireland's Allen made breaks of 121 to twice take the lead, but Trump responded with breaks of 114 and 100 in the closing stages. The 36-year-old world champion finally took control after the match reached 6-6, setting up a quarter-final showdown against England's Shaun Murphy, who received a bye to the last eight.

The Trump-Allen contest was the only first-round match completed on the opening day. England's Barry Hawkins led Thailand's Thepchaiya Un-Nooh 5-3, while China's Wu Yize built a commanding 6-2 advantage over England's Chris Wakelin. Both incomplete matches are scheduled for conclusion on Tuesday.
