Retro Computing

• A developer has released a native x64 port github.com of Microsoft Word for Windows 1.1a, letting modern systems run the classic word processor without emulation. Separately, a 2011 prediction longbets.org about web URL decay is coming true: the original link will disappear in 11 years, as the Long Bets platform noted.

Platform Regulation

• Illinois legislation itsfoss.com now requires operating systems to report users’ ages, sparking debate over privacy and technical enforcement. A new MCP interceptor marketnow.site blocks dangerous commands and .env reads, protecting agents from runtime exploits.

App Store Corrections

• John Gruber published a retraction daringfireball.net after an App Store rejection story was found to be a correct rejection, underscoring the challenges of reporting on opaque review practices.

Investigative Techniques

• Journalists used an abandoned phone book bbc.com to track down Assad’s spy chief, proving that analog evidence still yields critical leads in digital investigations.
