The New York Yankees are making a rotation change, activating left-hander Carlos Rodon from the 15-day injured list to start against Baltimore on Tuesday. In a corresponding move, the team placed left-hander Max Fried on the 15-day injured list due to a left elbow bone bruise, retroactive to Friday. Fried went 4-4 with a 2.81 ERA in 15 starts this season, his second with the Yankees.

Rodon, in the fourth year of a six-year, $162 million contract, is 4-2 with a 3.30 ERA in nine starts after missing the season's opening month recovering from offseason elbow surgery. He had been on the IL since July 3 with left elbow inflammation and received platelet-rich plasma injections during his recovery. In his most recent rehab start for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Aug. 11, Rodon allowed three runs and three hits over 2⅔ innings with four strikeouts and two walks.

He will rejoin a strong Yankees rotation featuring Gerrit Cole, Cam Schlittler, Will Warren, and Ryan Weathers. Rodon previously had surgery on Oct. 15 to remove loose bodies and shave a bone spur in his left elbow, followed by a late March hamstring setback during spring training activities in Florida.
