Top-ranked Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the US Open, unable to recover from a right knee injury sustained after winning Wimbledon. The 25-year-old has not competed since defeating Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon final, missing the Masters 1000 events in Canada and Cincinnati.

"Even though I have been working hard with my team and my medical staff, we have now had to make the difficult decision that I will not be able to compete at the US Open this year," Sinner wrote on Instagram. He added that recent training in Monte Carlo showed he still needs more recovery time.

Sinner expressed disappointment, noting New York holds special meaning and he was eager to return. The withdrawal marks his first missed Grand Slam since his 2019 US Open debut. He holds a 44-3 record this year with six titles, including his second Grand Slam win at Flushing Meadows in 2024. His exit follows rival Carlos Alcaraz's announcement of his return from a wrist injury.
