Yale quarterback Dante Reno threw for 298 yards and four touchdowns, leading the Bulldogs to a 41-24 win over Merrimack in New Haven, Connecticut, just days after the death of his father, former Yale head coach Tony Reno. Tony Reno, who died at age 52, led Yale to five Ivy League championships over 14 seasons and the program's first FCS playoff victory. He resigned earlier in 2026 due to health issues and had been on medical leave since the end of the 2025 season.

Yale held a pregame tribute, and the Ivy League observed a moment of silence during all conference home games. Dante Reno completed 22 of 39 passes, added 39 rushing yards, and posted 'This one's for you pops' on social media after the game. A former four-star recruit who began his career at South Carolina, Reno became Yale's starter this season after recovering from an elbow injury in the opener against Holy Cross.

Last fall, he threw for 2,498 yards and 21 touchdowns, guiding Yale to a 9-3 record and the Ivy League title. Tony Reno compiled an 83-49 record from 2012 to 2025, ranking second in Yale history behind Carm Cozza.
